What began as a passion project has evolved into something more. We’re proud of where we’ve been and even more excited for what’s ahead.

About Us

  • Captured Campus is a division of CAPTVR3D LLC, which Charisse Smith founded in 2019 with a pretty specific bet: that 3D was going to become the most powerful marketing medium available, and that most industries weren't ready for it yet.

She was right. After years of building 3D marketing assets across industries, higher education kept coming up as the place where the gap between what a campus actually offers and what prospective students could see online was biggest. So we built a division around it.

Our first full campus experience went live with Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri in fall 2022. We've been building on that ever since.

  • Most college virtual tours feel like exactly what they are: a predetermined path through a campus that looks a lot like every other campus's predetermined path. Students click through it once, maybe. It doesn't move the needle.

What we build is different. Every Captured Campus experience is custom, built around what your specific campus has to offer and how students actually make decisions. There's no preset route. Smart navigation guides them toward what they already care about, then opens the door to what you want them to discover. Students who experience it for the first time are surprised. They weren't expecting to actually be in control. That surprise is engagement, and that engagement is the moment they start imagining themselves there.

Beyond that, we're not just building a tour. We embed media, create intuitive navigation, link to the things that matter, and provide metrics to prove it's working. We train your team on how to use the experience across departments, social media, recruiting events and more. And we keep working with you after launch, because the campuses that get the best outcomes are the ones that treat this as an ongoing partnership, not a one-time project.

We're also always growing what we can do as the technology does. What you invest in today gets smarter over time.

  • Honestly, we can enter through whatever door is open.

Sometimes it's admissions, looking for a better way to convert digital interest into applications. Sometimes it's athletics, wanting to recruit with the facilities they've actually built. Sometimes it's a single academic department with a lab or studio that sets them apart and no good way to show it off. Sometimes it's marketing, finally ready to have an experiential centerpiece that the brand has been missing.

It doesn't matter where things start. We know how to build something extraordinary in one area of a campus and let that work open the conversation with everyone else. You don't need full institutional buy-in on day one. You just need one person who believes what your campus offers deserves a better medium.

We work with institutions across the country, and we go where you are.

  • Here's the thing about campus visits. They work. Students who visit campuses enroll at dramatically higher rates. Every admissions director reading this already knows that.

So why does the average college website still have a virtual tour that feels like a glorified slideshow?

The pool of prospective students is shrinking. High school graduates peaked in 2025 and the numbers will decline for the next 15 years according to the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education. That's not a distant problem. It's already here. Fewer students means more competition, tighter budgets, and less margin for a weak first impression.

On top of that, getting a student to physically show up on campus before they've already made up their mind is getting harder. A single campus visit can run a family $2,000 or more in travel costs before a student has even applied.

Meanwhile, 73% of students are already using virtual experiences in their college search. They're doing the tour. They're just not feeling it.

That's the gap. Students are searching online, making real decisions, and most of what they're finding looks and feels exactly like every other school. The campus that actually shows itself, in a way that feels like being there, wins.

  • We start by listening. Before anything gets built, we spend time learning what your campus has to offer, what your goals are, and who you're trying to reach. That shapes everything.

Then we come to you. Our team does the imaging on location, capturing your campus the way it actually feels to be there. From there we go into production, building out the custom experience, the navigation, the embedded media, and the integrations that make it useful across your institution.

When it goes live, that's not the end of the relationship. We do ongoing check-ins, review your metrics together, and work with you to evolve the experience intentionally over time. The campuses that see the biggest outcomes are the ones that stay engaged with the process. The more invested you are, the better the results.

We also train your team on the things most clients don't expect, like how to generate an almost unlimited number of social media posts with smart links directly into the tour, how to connect department pages to relevant campus locations, and how to use the experience at recruiting events in ways that stop students in their tracks.

When you're ready to talk, we're ready to listen.
